Problem Statement: Large loan to International Organization for Migration. When Ana and her family came to the US from the Congo and Kenya, their airfare was paid for them by IOM with the understanding that it would be repaid. While Ana is employed full time she usually works less than 40 hours a week at a low wage. This creates a significant financial shortfall for her. She does make monthly payments to IOM as she is able to but usually for an amount less than the scheduled monthly payment. IOM has graciously worked with her and, while we don’t know this to be factual, the indication is that she must repay the debt before she will be able to apply for citizenship.
As a widow making very low income she is supporting 4 wonderful children, all of which are in school – elementary, middle and high school. Ana attends Westover with her children and has become a very dear member of Legacy Builders life community.
Objectives: Pay off Ana's travel debt to International Organization for Migration
After Statement: This grant helped provide funding to pay off Ana's travel debt to International Organization for Migration - IOM Paying off the IOM loan greatly eased Ana's financial short-fall and facilitate her and children gaining citizenship as soon as eligible.
